Coax cables contain layers of shielding wire, insulation and foil. Each layer contributes to the efficiency of the cable. Stripping a coax cable to install a connector improperly can result in damaging the layers shielding the core wire transferring information between audio/visual equipment. Coax cable strippers remove the outer portion of the cable and the internal shielding at a depth that does not damage the shielding required for the cable to operate correctly.
-
1
Slide a piece of coax cable into the jaws of a cable cutter. Squeeze the handles of the cutter forcefully to cut the coax cable to length.
-
2
Push one end of the coax cable into the opening of a coax cable stripper. Make sure the end of the cable sits flush with the depth flange located on the opposite side of the opening.
-
3
Squeeze the stripper handle to lock it in position.
-
4
Spin the stripper around the cable four to five times.
-
5
Pull the stripper away from the cable to remove the cut coating and shielding.
